Italians in quarantine have been offered free porn to pass the time.

Pornhub announced on Friday it would give free premium subscriptions to those in Italy until April.

"Forza Italia, we love you!" the company wrote.

"To help you during these weeks at home, for the whole month you can access Pornhub Premium free of charge, with no need to use your credit card."

Italy has been rocked by a coronavirus outbreak which has killed more than 800 people. The entire country has been locked down to stop the spread of the disease. All residents and visitors are urged to remain quarantined at home.

Even if people were to leave their homes, Italy's stringent lockdown measures have ensured there is not much to do.

All shops, bars, pubs, restaurants and beauty salons have been ordered to close by Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

"All shops will be closed apart from those for basic necessities, such as pharmacies and supermarkets. Industries can stay open, but with strict measures in place, as well as essential services such as banks. Transport will be guaranteed," he said on Thursday.

Schools, universities, cultural sites, museums, theatres, cinemas and ski resorts have also been closed, with sporting events and mass gatherings suspended.

There are currently 12,462 cases of the novel coronavirus in Italy, the death toll rising by 31 percent to 827 as of Thursday morning (NZ time), according to a tracker operated by Johns Hopkins University.
