The bizarre layout of a Sydney flat has people across the internet scratching their heads.

Advertised for $406 a week the furnished apartment has a double bed and a separate living area.

But the real confusion is the bathroom - located behind clear glass walls, smack bang in the middle of the room.

The glass bathroom is not mentioned at all in the listing for the flat but it is clearly visible in the pictures.

The layout of the apartment means if someone was lying in bed, or sitting on the couch they could stare straight in and see someone on the toilet.

It's listed with Exclusive Real Estate's Emma Mattiuzzo, who told Realestate.com.au that "a lot of people" have expressed interest.

"There are a lot of people who have come through and loved it because it is different to what you usually see.

"The studio suits a single person and because there is not much space, you're not going to be hosting dinner parties, so it won't be a problem for many."

A picture of the apartment was posted to Twitter by Joan Westenberg where it baffled social media users.

"How is this even legal?" wrote one woman.

"I could have sworn we have building codes that protect against this??"

"Why wouldn't they at least frost the glass?" another questioned.
