Excessive gender reveals have been hitting headlines lately, especially after a recent stunt by a Californian couple sparked a wildfire that grew to 30 sq km and prompted emergency evacuations.

They're so in vogue that couples are willing to shell out huge bucks just to reveal to friends, family - and usually followers - the gender of their unborn child.

But one couple has taken the idea to new heights. Literally.

Instead of utilising the usual balloons or smoke cannons, Dubai-based YouTubers Anas and Asala Marwah used the tallest tower in the world to announce they were having a baby boy.

The couple, whose YouTube channel Anasala Family has over 7.5 million subscribers, had Dubai's Burj Khalifa light up in blue lights after an animated countdown.

"It's a boy!" was projected on the 828m tower.

The video has now racked up over 14 million views.

According to Cosmopolitan, the reveal's cost was over US$140,000 (NZ$210,000).

"We wanted to do something unique and memorable so that we can all look at it in the future and remember what we built as a family," Asala told the viewers in the clip.

"I am trying my best to give content that no one has ever seen before."

Well, she certainly achieved that.

The couple already has one daughter, who they welcomed in 2018.
