If you have a sweet tooth and you're planning on staying in this weekend, your night on the couch just got a whole lot sweeter.

Beloved Auckland ice cream bar Giapo will make its debut on Uber Eats on Friday evening, so you no longer have to brave the lines to get one of its wild creations.

The outlet is joining the likes of Ben & Jerry's and Krispy Kreme as a provider of sweet treats to Auckland-based Uber Eats customers.

Owner Gianpaolo Grazioli, better known as Giapo, says the team started trialling deliveries during lockdown, but soon realised they needed the help of the experts.

"We've been doing deliveries during lockdown and it's something we'd never done before," he told Newshub.

"We are definitely not experts - sometimes it would take up to three hours for the food to be delivered."

This, of course, is not ideal when you're waiting for ice cream.

Now they're on Uber Eats, Giapo says it's a new step for the stalwart that's known for having lines out the door.

"It's a more limited menu but there will be a new release or invention every week, which we've been doing for a while," he says.

"Every week we come up with a new thing and out all our focus and effort on that for people to enjoy."

To celebrate the occasion, customers are being offered an exclusive menu item only available on Uber Eats this weekend - Giapo's 'Butterscotch Self Saucing Pie'.

"Uber Eats has been extremely generous and together with them, we are giving away a free pie to the first 33 people that spend $25," says Giapo.
