According to the experts the first thing you should do before starting any painting project is to check all your electrical tools.

Resene expert Bryce McDermott tells The DIY Experts Hamish Dodd and Stan Scott tools such as electrical sanders, paint spray guns and extension leads should be tested and tagged to ensure they are safe to use.

"If you are using tools such as paint brushes and rollers, another important thing to remember is how to put these tools away," Bryce says.

"If you have finished painting for the day you need to  wrap your paint brushes and rollers in a wet tea towel to make sure they do not dry out overnight. This will make it easier for you to tackle each new day of painting."
