Is it suitable to propose at someone else's wedding?

That's the question people on the internet are debating after a video went viral on Twitter showing the moment a bridesmaid was surprised during the bouquet toss with her partner down on one knee.

Viewed more than 6 million times, the video was shared by retired basketballer and social media influencer Rex Chapman, but it's not clear who originally filmed it.

The clip shows a bride ready to throw the bouquet to her bridesmaids, who are poised and waiting behind.

But at the last second, the bride turns, walks over and hands the flowers to one of the shocked bridesmaids, whose boyfriend is waiting behind her on one knee with a ring while the rest of the bridal party claps and cheers.

"Plot twist," Chapman captioned the clip. "This is the Twitter content I'm here for."

The post has racked up more than 200,000 likes and 20,000 retweets, mostly from impressed viewers praising the bride's selflessness on her big day.

"How beautiful. And how wonderful of the bride for sharing her day. No bridezilla here!" one person wrote.

"The generosity of spirit, love and friendship displayed by the bride here is everything," added another. "May we all be as blessed as her friends and family."

"Here is a bride who is about family and friends on her big day. Not just me, me, me. Commendable," praised another.

But others were unimpressed with the move by the groom's friend.

"The nerve to take another woman's day and make it about them. What is this guy thinking?" questioned one unimpressed viewer.

"Me as the bride, 'OK so that's fine but if you're soaking up half the attention, we're splitting the cost of my wedding?'" joked another.

It's not the first time a wedding guest has been accused of upstaging the bride. Earlier this year one guest's red, sheer lacy dress raised eyebrows online.
