After a year of cancelled shows and unfinished collections, several New Zealand designers bought fashion back to Auckland through various events this week.
New Zealand Fashion Week was "postponed indefinitely" earlier this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, and wasn't held in August as planned.
But several local fashion houses including Stolen Girlfriends Club, Paris Georgia and Maggie Marilyn all launched collections or new stores this week in a series of showcases and events.
Paris Georgia, a brand launched in 2015 by friends Paris Mitchell Temple and Georgia Cherri, showcased their new collection at Auckland eatery East Street hall on Wednesday evening, before NZ fashion stalwart Stolen Girlfriends Club did the same on Thursday in downtown Auckland's Shed 10.
SGC creative director Marc Moore said his new collection 'Is there music in the afterlife' was designed "during the Australian bushfires [and] when Covid was descending on us".
"It's all about the brave new worlds that can rise from destruction and chaos, so it felt like a perfect thing to share right now," he said.
The 48 SGC models traversed a two-level, 53m catwalk structure, while all the attendees wore branded face masks in favour of invites.
Also on Thursday, designer Maggie Marilyn held a women's wellness evening in her new Britomart store, interviewing wellbeing coach Stacey O'Gorman.
