Jacinda Ardern has revealed a "candid" picture summing up her 2020 - and fans of the Prime Minister have been quick to applaud the goofy snap.

Wearing a white lab coat and goggles, the Prime Minister looked a little unprepared for the picture with her raised eyebrows and confused expression.

"I feel like this candid photo from Auckland University today really captures 2020," she jokingly captioned the photo, shared to her social media followers on Thursday.

The photo of the lab-coat-clad Prime Minister drew hundreds of comments, many praising Ardern for embracing her silly side.

"You are a queen," said one.

"I love her, let's emigrate," said another.

"How many times have we been in this lab?" commented one crestfallen student.

The post follows an article by leading scientific journal Nature earlier this week ranking Ardern among its top 10 individuals who helped to shape science this year, alongside the likes of World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and leading American physician Anthony Fauci.

On Thursday, the Government announced it had made new pre-purchase deals with pharmaceutical companies Novavax and AstraZeneca, securing access to two additional vaccines against COVID-19.

The agreements mean New Zealand now has secured enough courses to immunise the entire population, as well as the Pacific.
