The body of an Instagram influencer who vanished on Friday has been found on the side of a road over the weekend, her family has confirmed.

Alexis Sharkey, 26, who lived in Houston, Texas, went missing on Friday evening, according to her mother.

She was found unclothed and dead on the side of the road on Saturday morning at about 8am (local time), police told ABC13.

The 26-year-old had no visible injuries but the cause of her death is still unknown, police said.

Sharkey was a popular Instagram influencer, with more than 26,000 followers. She had moved to Houston with her husband Tom earlier this year.

Her mother, Stacey Robinault told ABC13 she believed her daughter was murdered.

"I do believe she was murdered, yes. From what I've been able to gather as well as a mother's gut," she said.

"I learned [when I was] very young, as a mum, to trust my gut. It's not let me down.

"We're very broken. We're very broken-hearted.

"It's just painful for someone so bright and having so much to offer - just to be gone, to be snuffed out. "

Robinault told the ABC she had not seen or heard from her daughter since Thanksgiving on Thursday last week.

She found out her daughter was missing on Saturday through her husband Tom Sharkey, and by then, she was in "full panic mode".

In a statement shared to Facebook on Sunday night, Sharkey's mother wrote: "It's with deeply broken hearts that Mike and I want to let you all know that Lexi's body has been found.

"We cannot begin to thank you all for your love and the kind words you've extended to our family!

"Please give us this time to grieve his incredible loss to our family and this world!!! We will miss you, Love!!!!
