An Aussie dad says he's suffering backlash for showering nude with his six-year-old daughter in a public pool changing room with other swimmers acting "disgusted".

Writing an anonymous piece for Kidspot, a woman says her husband Kyle recently took their young daughter Isla (names were changed) for a swim on a hot summer's day before heading into the men's changing room for a shower.

While the changing rooms were reportedly empty when they entered, Kyle's wife wrote that as he was showering with his daughter, another man entered the area and acted "disgusted" at what he was seeing.

"His expression went from casual to one that could only be described as completely disgusted – his eyes narrowing and lips curling into a frown," the mum wrote.

"'Not really the right place for your daughter is it?'," the man reportedly accused, before adding: "This is the male change room, not the female. She shouldn't be showering like that in here."

"The man's tone was critical and it clearly insinuated that there was something wrong and inappropriate in what Kyle was doing - with him and Isla, a father and daughter, showering naked in that changeroom," wrote the mum, before adding her husband was in a "state of shock" and unable to reply.

The pair quickly left, and upon returning home Kyle told the story to his wife, who says she became "absolutely infuriated".

"While I was also shocked hearing this experience being recounted to me, I was not unsure of Kyle's decision, I was completely confident that what he did was fine, normal and practical."

It raises the age-old debate over what age it becomes inappropriate for children to be in the changing room of the opposite sex. A post on parenting forum Mumsnet asking that very question in 2017, with varied results.

It seemed to be the general consensus that children aged eight and older should be in their own changing room, while those under eight are fine to enter with their parents.
