A cafe and juice bar in Florida was left in shock after a customer left a US$2021 (NZ$2804) tip.

The customer, who is a regular according to the owner, visited Miami Squeeze on New Year's Day and left the sizeable tip because they wanted to give back to the store.

"When we first got the bill, we thought it was $20.21," owner Kelly Amar told CNN.

But once staff realised it was instead for $2021, they asked the customer if she meant to leave a tip this size.

"We went back to her and asked, 'Are you sure?' and she said, 'Yes, of course, I'm so grateful for you guys and I want to give back," Amar said.

The tip will be shared between the juice bar's 25 staff as a gift.

The cafe also took to Instagram to thank the customer.

"We can't even begin to express how thankful and humble we are for our amazing customers who have kept us in business," the caption says.

"Last year was a tough year for everyone so we're so grateful to be able to start this new year like this."

Amar said after COVID-19 hit, the cafe was forced to let many of its staff go. But now, business is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels and there are plans to open a new location.

"This means so much to us and we couldn't say thank you enough."
