America's Cup fever has been sweeping the nation - now it's hitting your local fast food joint.

McDonald's NZ announced on Wednesday the launch of three new limited-edition burgers to celebrate the America's Cup - the first time the burger chain has released a limited edition range aligned to a sporting event.

The three new burger flavours are as follows:

  • Sailor's Double Beef – includes two beef patties, crispy onions, beetroot and smoky BBQ sauce
  • Skipper's Spicy Chicken – includes chicken fillet, crunchy slaw and spicy mayo
  • Foiling Crispy Fish – includes NZ-caught hoki fillet, slaw, lettuce and tartare sauce.

Internationally, they're not the only McDonald's burgers created to celebrate a special occasion. In 2018  the McBrasil - complete with special green mayonnaise - was created for the FIFA World Cup, and the Prosperity Burger was released in China last month for Chinese New Year.
