If you had to put your finger on a cocktail that continues to surge in popularity even after all these years, it would definitely be the espresso martini.

You just can't go past for a celebration as you can drink it at a boozy breakfast, lunch or dinner - or, of course, out at the bar while a long-suffering bartender fixes 12 of them for you and all your friends.

But if you really want to impress your friends at your next function, serve up a tray of homemade espresso martinis. They're easier than they seem - especially if you use a pre-made mix -  and of course, will give you a little pep up if you need it to get through the night,

The experts at Harpoon x Quick Brown Fox say the key is all in the presentation.

"We've created a bottled espresso martini to make enjoying this popular cocktail easy, wherever you are, but you can elevate it to be extra special by switching up your garnish," a member of the team told Newshub.

"While the classic is three coffee beans (supposedly representing health, wealth and happiness – which I think we could all use a bit of right now) consider popcorn, grated chocolate, raspberry dust or toasted coconut shavings."

If you can't be bothered making them yourself, the Harpoon x Quick Brown Fox team will be serving espresso martinis on tap at the Auckland Craft Beer & Food Festival this Saturday.

Otherwise, bookmark this delicious recipe they've given Newshub for a hot chocolate espresso martini.

  • 120ml milk
  • 4 squares dark chocolate

*Double boil till melted. Set aside.

In a shaker add:

  • 90ml Harpoon Espresso Martini

Or:

  • 30ml Quick Brown Fox Coffee Liqueur
  • 30ml Harpoon Cold Brew Espresso Strength Concentrate
  • 30ml spiced rum

Shake and strain into a cup (no ice)

Top with the melted chocolate milk

Garnish with grated chocolate

*To double boil, place a bowl with your ingredients over a pot of boiling water – the steam will gently heat the bowl, melting its contents.

The Auckland Craft Beer & Food Festival will take place on Saturday, March 27 at Spark Arena.
