A US mother has racked up masses of online support after revealing why she teaches her five daughters that virginity isn't real and instead is a "patriarchal concept".

Parenting author Cayce LaCorte makes a living helping parents teach their children about "consent and the power of choice"  - and she extends that teaching to her own children.

In a recent TikTok, La Corte explains why she hates the term "losing your virginity".

"It is a patriarchal concept used to control women and serves no purpose, other than making women feel bad about ourselves," she says.

"Just because some guy randomly sticks his penis in you at some point in your life does not change your worth, it does not change who you are, it doesn’t do anything other than it happened."

When other parents have previously asked if she's worried her daughters will be "promiscuous'", LaCorte says she has an answer ready.

"I'm raising them to be good people and make good choices and smart choices."

"Sex is important," she adds. "It's a big deal. It should always be a big deal. It has nothing to do with your first time... it's just ridiculous. The whole concept is ridiculous."

Her video has been viewed more than 2.4 million times, with other parents commenting to say she's changed their minds on how they talk to their children about sex.

"I love this and want more information on how it's working!" one woman wrote.

"I love this - I always teach my daughters it's more important to protect their credit score than their virginity," another joked.

"Why do I feel this way but never realised I felt this way until now?" another questioned.
