If you're paleo, keto or gluten-free, you'll probably relate to this one.

Residents of an apartment block in Poland were reportedly left quaking in their homes thanks to a mysterious creature stuck in a tree outside -which turned out to be a buttery, flaky croissant.

According to the Independent, The Krakow Animal Welfare Society posted on Facebook this week to say the organisation had received a "terrified" call from a resident about the brown, seemingly headless creature stuck in the lilac tree.

"It's been sitting in a tree across the house for two days! People aren't opening their windows because they're afraid it will go into their house," the caller was reported as saying to a society spokesperson.

Residents thought it was some type of large rodent, bird of prey, or iguana.

In the tongue-in-cheek post, the society said on arrival they realised they sadly "couldn't help this creature", which turned out to be a croissant.

It said it hoped that the bizarre incident, which it believed was genuine, would not discourage others from reporting their animal welfare concerns.
