The easiest way to turn a bad day into an unbeatable one is with dinner and drinks, and now you can have all the joy of a rooftop bar - even in the worst of Wellington's weather.

Nestled in Cable Car Lane, off the city's busy Lambton Quay is the small but mighty Concrete Bar.

The bar has launched its new Concrete Jungle - a secluded glasshouse perched above Lambton Quay where guests can enjoy a private dining experience.

The Concrete Jungle glasshouses are dimly lit and festooned with ivy. There's a Bluetooth speaker so you can listen to your own music, and an option to order and pay for drinks from a QR code on the table - meaning you don't have to leave the privacy of the glasshouse if you don't want to.

There's a set menu of starters, shared mains and dessert, and a specialty whiskey cocktail list with four different options - all delicious.

The menu is varied, well thought out, and more than enough to feed four hungry people.

To kick things off, we were given whipped garlic and olive tapenade alongside a decadent baked camembert with spiced pear and cranberry.

Then a whimsical tiered main was brought out. With the best calamari I've had in living memory, satay beef, charred cauliflower and fried chicken, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Finally, there's the most important meal of all - dessert.

Perched at the top of the tiered tray was cinnamon sugar donuts with salt caramel dipping sauce and a slice of cheesecake.

Although it was raining outside and there was a howling wind - typical Wellington - inside the greenhouse was quiet and dry. Concrete supplied blankets to wrap up warm in, and the whisky cocktails helped keep us warm too.

Concrete Jungle is available by booking through until September.
