A US man's DIY attempt to combat his impotence could have led to him damaging his penis beyond repair.

The man, 45, got expanding foam stuck inside his urethra when his partner inserted the straw of a can of insulation into the top of his penis and mistakenly hit the button, the Mirror reported.

The Mirror reported the man waited three weeks before seeking medical attention after it became increasingly sore and difficult to urinate.

The 4-inch long foam hardened and became 'anchored' in his penis.

Doctors had to cut an opening between his scrotum and his anus to urinate and medics said he will need to pass a psychiatric evaluation to qualify for reconstructive surgy, the Daily Mail reported.
