Most women are well-acquainted with the trials and tribulations of finding that perfectly fitted pair of jeans. Sometimes they're too small in the thigh and gape around the waist; other times they snatch the waist a little too snugly - but are somehow still baggy around the butt.

But the days of determinedly wriggling your lower body into unyielding denim could now be a distant memory, with one US woman sharing a hack on how to find the perfect fit - without even trying them on.

In a clip uploaded to TikTok, content creator and boutique owner Alyssa shares a simple trick for sizing a pair of jeans without braving the fitting rooms.

In the clip, which has since amassed more than 282,000 views, Alyssa demonstrates the "lifesaving" hack - a trick she says her husband initially thought was too good to be true.

"Jean hack! My husband thought I was crazy," Alyssa, who owns the women's clothing store Top Notch Boutique in the US state of Indiana, captioned the clip.

"Let me show you a jeans hack that's going to be a lifesaver."

Alyssa picks a pair of jeans and wraps the waist of the pants around her neck, with the two ends of the waistband meeting neatly at the front.

"If it fits round your neck, they're going to fit," she says.

To illustrate her top tip, Alyssa then heads into the changing room - emerging moments later in the fitted jeans.

"See! Look how cute they are!" she announces.

Hordes of TikTok users were quick to express their excitement, with many agreeing the trick is tried-and-tested.

"Yes it always works," one claimed.

"It works, I've done this for years," another seconded, with a third adding: "It definitely works!"

"Yesss! My mom told me this hack as we were growing up. Totally works!" a fourth agreed, with a fifth chiming in: "My mom does this."

"It works! Amazing!" another said.

However, not everyone was convinced, with some sharing their own anecdotes after attempting the hack at home.

"This didn't work for me," one reported, while another said: "I tried it with a few pairs and it didn't work."

But a word of warning - maybe only attempt the trick with stretchy denim, with Alyssa later admitting the trick doesn't always work with rigid or inelastic jeans.

"It depends on the person's body type and [the] stretch," she acknowledged in the comments.

"All my jeans I buy are stretchy. Not a fan of 100 percent cotton."

Social media is a great place to pick up tips - some tried-and-tested, others revolutionary. In August last year, a Kiwi woman was labelled a "genius" after she shared her own hack to TikTok - using a baby nappy as a hair wrap.

And in March, a Canadian woman went viral online after sharing a hack for hanging clothes that she says saves hours on laundry day.
