You don't need to wait for July 4 to sink your teeth into this juicy, crispy, classic American cheese and bacon burger.

Each bite is bursting with sweet and savoury flavours - the crusty toasted buns give way to the fresh crunch of onion and tomatoes, followed by oozing cheese over fatty minced beef that's grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

Serves 6

  • ½ kg fatty mince beef
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 burger buns
  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 12 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 tomato (sliced)
  • 12 slices of beef bacon
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise.

Directions

1. Toast buns

  • Brush the insides of the buns with butter and place them cut-side down on a hot pan or griddle until they're golden and crusty.

2. Make beef patties

  • Add the Worcestershire sauce and fish sauce to the mince and gently mix through.
  • Shape the patties and make indentations in the middle.

3. Cook patties

  • Heat a non-stick skillet and melt the butter until it starts to brown.
  • Cook the patties for two minutes on each side.

4. Assemble burger

  • Mix the mustard with the mayonnaise and spread on the insides of the buns.
  • Add the lettuce, slices of tomatoes, onions and then the burger patty, topped with melted cheese and a slice of crispy bacon.
  • Top with another patty, another slice of cheese and more bacon before adding the top bun.

5. Plate and serve!
