Meet the man fighting for the rights of middle children

Today is Middle Child Day, which recognises the accomplishments and struggles of middle children everywhere.

The only problem? No one cares. But one man is determined to change that.

Founder of the International Middle Child Union Bruce Hopman is on a mission to celebrate the forgotten ones and has a desperate plea to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

He is offering New Zealand a chance to become the first and only place on earth to celebrate middle children.

"I know a few years ago there were some issues with New Zealand being left off the map and that's exactly the kind of middle child treatment… being literally left out," Hopman said.

"So I think the people of New Zealand can relate to our plight and I'd like to reach out to your Prime Minister issuing a proclamation acknowledging August 12 as Middle Child's Day."
