New Zealand rugby league great Sir Graham Lowe slams 'rude' Kiwi phone habit

A New Zealand rugby league great has slammed the "rude" phone habit Kiwis have picked up when they're communicating with other people.

It comes after Davidson High School in Sydney banned cell phones for students in years 7 to 10, which has resulted in a drastic improvement in bad behaviour.

"Classrooms have effectively become phone-free and this has allowed staff to focus on educating students," the school said in a newsletter.

"Finally, in eight weeks of the policy, there has been a 90 percent reduction in behavioural issues related to phones in the school."

The high school requires students to put phones in a pouch that, once closed, cannot be reopened without breaking a lock.

New Zealand rugby league great Sir Graham Lowe has now slammed the way Kiwis' have become so reliant on their phones.

"A lot of people, rudely I think, have got into a habit of when they're talking to you, they still have their phone in their hand," he told AM on Wednesday.

"I feel like saying to them, 'you dickhead, put that away' - but people don't even think it's rude anymore."
