A video by a Starbucks barista sharing her customer pet peeve has gone viral.

Kim Porter shared on TikTok the annoying tendency some customers have while she makes their drinks, sparking online debate on whether it is rude to stare at a barista while they work.

In the now-deleted video, Porter shared a clip of her pouring milk into a drink while giving the 'customer' the side eye.

"Me to the customer steady [staring] while I make their drink," she wrote on the video, which has been viewed over 140,000 times.

In the caption, she noted she was off the clock and wasn't serving an actual customer at the time the footage was recorded.

The clip resonated with a number of baristas, who agreed it is rude for customers to stare at them while they work.

"They be acting like it's gonna make me make their drink faster," one person commented.

"I stare at them back and if they don't look away I ask, 'hi are you looking for something?'" another said.

However, some customers explained why they closely watch baristas make their drinks, with many seemingly unaware that it could come off as ill-mannered.

"I just find it satisfying to watch them make the drink and watch the coffee change colours," one person commented.

"I just wanna know how you make it so I can do it at home," a second added.

Some customers noted that they carefully watch baristas due to their allergies, and don't want to risk their drink being accidentally made incorrectly.

"Last time the worker put whole milk instead of almond milk and I got sick," another pitched in.

While some people are still in favour of keeping tabs on their purchases, it may be best to keep the gawking to a minimum.
