A mother warned others to not choose their baby names while pregnant after she renamed her baby after six months.

Jen Hamilton, from North Carolina, changed her son's name from Aspen to Luke after several people reacted negatively towards the name Aspen.

Hamilton told The Independent: "I started to feel really uncomfortable saying Aspen out loud as it just didn't seem to fit him."

The mother added she and her husband picked the name Aspen off a Pinterest list of "outdoor names," and didn't put much thought into it.

"I feel like it should be illegal to choose a name when you’re pregnant," she told The Independent.

Hamilton thought the name would fit after a couple of months but she struggled to stick with it.

She also said several of her friends thought her son would be bullied if she kept the name, Aspen.

"People suggested that he might be bullied if it was shortened to 'A**' when he is older and I started to pretend I didn’t hear people asking his name."

Hamilton told The Independent her sister was the one who urged her to change her son's name to Luke.

"She just very nonchalantly said why don’t you change it?"

Hamilton and her husband decided on the name Luke after they found out it meant "light".
