If slightly perturbing photos of tomato sauce slathered over bathroom sinks have been clogging your feeds, well, here's why.
A new cleaning hack is taking off on social media, with mums in both Australia and Aotearoa singing its praises - and yes, it involves squirting the saucy staple into your sink.
Taking to the popular Facebook group Mums Who Clean, one home-cleaning connoisseur shared how she uses the popular condiment to achieve sparkling sinks and taps, promising it banishes built-up grime and stubborn stains for good.
"I just put it all around the base, left it overnight and rinsed it off and cleaned as normal. It was perfect," she said.
The hack garnered the attention of other curious cleaning enthusiasts, who were soon reporting back in their droves on the success of the experiment. Several shared before and after shots to illustrate, with one hailing the mastermind behind the hack "a genius".
"Whoever came up with the tomato sauce tap hack, you're a genius. Have tried everything, and nothing worked like this. No scrubbing, no effort. I'm blown away," one said, with a second agreeing: "Thanks to this group I learnt the tomato sauce around the tap trick. OMG it's amazing, mine was terrible. Left it overnight."
Others applauded the trick as a "game-changer", with another declaring: "Who thinks of these cleaning ideas? Tomato sauce, I'll be damned!"
The theory behind the trick is that the acid in the tomato sauce helps to break down the grimey build-up, particularly if left on the affected areas for a prolonged period of time. Some tomatoes contain high levels of ascorbic acid, or vitamin C.
According to the group, the sauce is most effective at lifting stubborn dirt when it's left for several hours or overnight.
