The top five areas we forget to clean at home and how AM hosts clean theirs

A popular cleaning 'expert' on TikTok has revealed the top five places people forget to clean around the home.

The New York-based content creator, who goes by the username @neat.caroline, regularly shares videos of cleaning tips and tricks for her four million followers.

After watching the video live on-air on Wednesday, the hosts of AM decided to spill the beans about their own cleaning habits.

"I'm a cleaner at my house - but not a really in-depth sort of cleaner. So I was looking at those and I was just like… Oh yeah, I haven't really done those in a while," said AM co-host Michael O'Keefe.

Light switches were number one on @neat.caroline's list, followed by the nooks and crannies above doorways; under appliances, such as ovens; the shower head; and beneath rugs.

AM co-host Isobel Ewing said she considers herself a good cleaner, but admitted she's only cleaned above the door once.

"Only when I really get on a roll of cleaning - and I'm like, 'Oh, maybe up here!'

"I don't think I've ever cleaned the showerhead," she revealed.

AM newsreader Nicky Styris said her biggest pet peeve around the home is dirty light switches, closely followed by fly poop.

"Because I've got a teenager who gets foundation and makeup on her fingers, and she goes and turns all the lights on and leaves grubby marks."

But Ewing argued people need to prioritise the most important cleaning tasks.

"Otherwise you just spend your whole life cleaning every little corner of the house!"
