Ariana Grande roasted over Wicked poster after fans 'can't unsee' hilarious comparison

Remember Rihanna's internet-breaking gown at the 2015 Met Gala? A gown immortalised by an influx of memes likening its yellow swathes to one very impressive omelette?

Now, Ariana Grande's ethereal ruffled creation on the official poster for the upcoming Wicked movie has sparked a similar response, with commentators instead comparing its dramatic pink folds to, erm, prosciutto.

The poster, released by Universal Pictures on Sunday (local time), features Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba (who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West) and Grande as Glinda (the Good), with their combined shadows forming a looming 'W' against the green background.

While Elphaba is clad in the traditional witch garb of black ropes and a pointed hat, Glinda is dressed in a regal pink extravaganza with a glittering crown perched on her head.

The costume's resemblance to cured meat caused a bit of a stir on social media, with many quick to ham up the comparison in a series of tweets.

"Why does her dress look like prosciutto," one pondered on X, formerly Twitter.

"Her Italian heritage is very important," a second deadpanned.

"Looks more like mortadella to me but to each their own," a third weighed in, while a fourth added: "Cuz she's eating."

The charcuterie-style gown also drew comparisons to Lady Gaga's controversial meat dress of 2010; for the uninitiated, Gaga wore literal raw beef to the MTV Video Music Awards, complete with matching beefy boots, a hat, and cold cut clutch bag.

The Wicked poster is for the first instalment of the two-film adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s Tony-winning musical, itself adapted from a 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. The first film is scheduled to be released in November, while the second is planned for next year.

The movies have been marred with controversy after Grande's reported romance with co-star Ethan Slater made headlines. The first report of their alleged fling came days after news broke that Grande was divorcing her husband Dalton Gomez, whom she supposedly was still in a committed relationship with when filming began in late 2022.

Meanwhile, Slater was also married - to high-school sweetheart Lilly Jay - when he and Grande were first introduced on set. He and Jay welcomed their first child in 2022.

Both Grande and Slater filed for divorce from their respective spouses in July, when news of their rumoured romance broke.

The 30-year-old songstress referenced the reports in her latest single 'Yes, And?', with the pointed line: "Your business is yours and mine is mine, why do you care so much whose d*ck I ride?"

Roasts all around.
