Meghan Markle's lifestyle brand website 'hijacked' by UK food bank JustGiving page

The UK version of Meghan Markle's new lifestyle brand website has been "hijacked" by a JustGiving page where users are urged to donate to end food banks.

The AmericanRivieraOrchard.co.uk site now directs to a plea to help British anti-poverty charity The Trussell Trust raise money.

The Telegraph newspaper reported the UK domain for the site was the only one affected, as the US version of the website continued to function as a portal for the Duchess of Sussex's new lifestyle brand.

While the UK homepage said "Forgiveness. Permission. Please donate to the Trussell Trust", the redirected site's JustGiving page reads: "not meghan. Hope meghan wouldn't mind. Thoughts with catherine x," before revealing more information about what the Trussell Trust did.

"Our vision is for a UK without the need for food banks," it said.

It was unclear whether the Duchess of Sussex had given permission for the UK website's takeover.

The JustGiving page said it wanted to raise the equivalent of around NZ$2000, but at the time of writing had raised over NZ$14,500.

However, not everyone was impressed with the creative way the charity had raised awareness and money.

One person had donated US$2 to the cause, but wrote in a message next to the amount: "I only donated to tell you what pieces of s h i t you are."

The news comes just two days after the Duchess unveiled the first product from her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, sending jars of strawberry jam to influencers and friends.

It is believed the Duchess' website will offer retail items such as jams and preserves, butters, tablewares, cutlery, tablecloths, cookbooks and digital recipe offerings.
