A kiwi classic gets even better, Shepherd's Pie with Rich Beef Flavour

Shepherd’s Pie has been a favourite in Kiwi kitchens for generations.

This recipe couldn’t be easier to make at home and better yet, by simmering the meat in Campbell’s Beef Real Stock, the pie unleashes a richness of hearty flavour with every bite. 

Serves: 4-6 People

Ingredients:

500mL Campbell’s Real Stock Beef

1kg Potatoes, peeled, quartered

2 tbsp oil

500g beef mince

2-3 garlic cloves, crushed

2 tbsp plain flour

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 and 1/2 cups frozen peas

60g butter

1/2 cup milk

1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Method: 

1. Preheat oven to 200⁰C fan forced

2. Place potatoes in a large saucepan of salted water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 mins or until soft.

3. Meanwhile, heat oil in a frying pan. Add beef and cook for 5 mins. Add garlic and cook for a further 5 mins or until browned. Add flour and tomato paste, stir to combine.

4. Add Campbell’s Real Stock Beef. Simmer for 10 mins and add peas, then spoon into a 2L (8 cup) capacity casserole or baking dish.

5. Drain potatoes. Add butter and milk and mash until smooth and creamy. Season well. Spread over meat mixture. Top with cheese and bake for 15 mins, then change to grill setting for 5 mins or until golden.
