Got a Trade week begins

New Zealand needs more tradespeople, so there's been an initiative introduced which aims to sort out the country's looming skills shortage.

This is the second year the campaign has run, and it's aimed at 16-24 year olds

There's a shortage on people going into trades; 7 percent of school leavers head into an apprenticeship or on-the-job learning situation, while 28 percent head for a tertiary study pathway.

They say by 2020 our industries will need tens of thousands of people to meet replacement demand and growth.

Got a Trade chairperson, Andrew Robertson, spoke to Paul Henry this morning.
