Spanish fashion giant Zara has announced it will be opening its first New Zealand store next month.

The store will open on October 6 in Auckland's Sylvia Park.

The brand, founded by Amancio Ortega, launches around 12,000 new designs every year, of which half of them are still produced in Spain.

The business model allows for a new design to be created and then on the shelves in less than two weeks. With over 2100 stores in 90 markets, it is the largest retailer in the world.

Sylvia Park's parent company, Kiwi Property, has invested $11.5 million to create Zara's new store in eight months.

The store front is five times the size of a standard fashion retailer in the mall, which general manager Karl Retief will off shoppers "a world class experience".

The store opens six days after Swedish brand H&M launch their flagship New Zealand store at the same shopping complex.
