Uber starts change.org petition to continue service in London

Uber has started an online petition to protect its licence to operate in London.

Transport for London decided to not renew the company's operator licence, which expires on September 30, on the basis that the company was not a "fit and proper" private car hire operator.

More than 400,000 people have signed the petition to 'Save Your Uber in London', which is addressed to Mayor of London Sadiq Kahn.

The petition says: "If this decision stands, it will put more than 40,000 licensed drivers out of work and deprive millions of Londoners of a convenient and affordable form of transport."

The petition also promotes the use of the hashtag #SaveYourUber and users have been taking to Twitter to voice discontent at the decision to not renew the licence.

Alongside the online activity, Uber has launched a legal appeal. It is able to continue to operate until a decision is made on the appeal.
