Lotto Strike struck twice in Whangarei

A Wellington gambler has started the year the right way, scooping up $1 million in Saturday night's Lotto draw.

The winning ticket was sold at a New World supermarket in Miramar.

They didn't however hit the Powerball jackpot, which will rise to $7 million for Wednesday's draw.

Strike Four was hit twice - both times in Whangarei. The winning tickets were sold at Countdown Tikipunga and Corner Cardz N Magz. Each player will take home $200,000.

Last year was the most successful year for Powerball, with 19 winners and one more multimillion-dollar winner from Levin still to come forward.
