Auckland petrol station sells fuel for 49c a litre

A south Auckland petrol station caused traffic mayhem on Sunday evening after it started selling petrol and diesel for 49 cents a litre.

It was no mistake - Gull Station on Roscommon Rd had quartered the usual price in a bid to get rid of fuel, before the store closed its doors for a month.

It worked, with queues lining the road leading up to the entrance and the petrol station running empty just after 10pm.

That could be partly thanks to social media, where photos of the store's signage advertising the discounted price were shared.

Gull pricing analyst Rohan Mehta told NZME the shop will be closed for four weeks while the tanks are replaced.

No other Gull stations are known to have slashed prices.
