The Provincial Growth Fund's investment into the gaming industry shows it's possible to create jobs anywhere in the country, an industry leader says.
Ian Taylor, managing director of Dunedin's Animation Research Ltd, told The AM Show on Thursday it's a message that jobs of the future don't have to be in the big cities.
"It recognises that the future of jobs aren't confined to a particular city. I'm hoping that code extends around the country, particularly around the regions, to encourage people that you can create your own jobs... in the place that you want to live."
Economist Shamubeel Eaqub says the investment is "quite a big deal because it now catches up Dunedin with what's been spent in Southland", and it's in a sustainable, high-value industry.
"What we don't want is just growth in construction, and when that stops, everything stops."
