Lotto results: Aucklander starts the decade $1 million richer

An Auckland gambler has started the decade perhaps the best way possible - becoming $1 million richer.

A ticket sold at the New World in Howick was the only one in the country to hit first division in the New Year's Day draw.

Strike Four was also won, by a player who bought a ticket from the Linden Foodmarket in Wellington. They take home $400,000.

Thirteen people won second division, each now $14,847 better off.

The winning numbers were 14, 23, 33, 34, 38 and 40. The Bonus ball was 10, the Powerball 8. Strike was 23, 38, 33 and 14.

Lotto said in the 2010s, it invested $2.2 billion into endeavours such as the making of hit film Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Olympic gold-winning athletes and tours by the New Zealand Dance Company.
