Thousands of Kiwis businesses are reopening on Tuesday after shutting up shop for more than a month.

With the new rules in place that ban face-to-face transactions contactless payment methods are now more important than ever.

Danu Abeysuriya, founder of Rush Digital, says the technology can go a long way to stopping the spread of COVID-19.

"One of the key things to consider with this pandemic and any situation like this is social distancing places a big part in controlling the spread," Abeysuriya told The AM Show on Tuesday.

"One of the drivers of electronic payments and also contactless especially is that you minimise the requirement for people to be standing together for extended periods."
