Top economist says New Zealand's gone from 'rock star' to 'very sluggish', needs to be 'really careful' with tax cuts

A leading economist is predicting New Zealand's GDP figures out later today will show our economy is still quite weak as inflation continues to be too high.

HSBC chief economist Paul Bloxham described New Zealand's economy as a "rock star economy" a decade ago and now we should aspire to regain that status.

It comes as the Government is being urged to run a tight ship and reconsider its tax policy ahead of the 2024 budget.
