Police have arrested two people over a series of ram-raids at petrol stations and a dairy in the Christchurch suburb of New Brighton early this morning.

A police officer was almost run over during the alleged crime spree, which involved two vehicles.

Detective Inspector Tony Hill says police saw two cars ram-raiding the Bower Ave Dairy around 3:40am and began a pursuit.

"Two offenders were arrested at the scene, while two other offenders fled the scene in the second vehicle," he says.

"As they fled the scene their vehicle has collided with a patrol car which was not occupied at the time. The fleeing vehicle, a grey Nissan Terrano, registration US9037, was initially pursued by police along New Brighton Rd but this was abandoned due to the manner of driving."

A 21-year-old man and 17-year-old woman will appear in Christchurch District Court today.

Police are still hunting the Nissan Terrano and any information about the raids can be left with police on (03) 363 7400.
