Quake rattles lower North Island

Lower North Island residents may have been awoken by early morning tremor, after a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the region.

The quake hit just after 4am, 25km north-west of Levin, at a depth of 5km, according to GeoNet.

Its intensity was described as strong.
