Two men will appear in Whangarei District Court today after a 49-year-old man was seriously assaulted in his Ruawai home.
Police allege the pair, aged 23 and 19, entered the victim's house early on Saturday morning, disguised and wearing gloves.
They allegedly started punching him, then threatened and assaulted him with what police believe to be an air pistol.
"The offenders then made threats against the man that to get him to take them to an ATM machine and withdraw money," a police spokesperson says.
"They also made threats against the victim’s family if he did not give them cash."
The victim was later taken to Dargaville Hospital with a head injury.
"[He] is traumatised by the incident, but is receiving good support from the community," police say.
The accused pair are facing aggravated robbery charges, and police say other charges will follow.
