The child sex offender who got out of his monitoring bracelet and went on the run in Wellington will stay behind bars for now.

Daniel Livingstone, charged with breaching his release conditions, appeared via audio/visual link in the Hutt Valley District Court before Judge John Walker this morning where he pleaded not guilty.

He didn't make an application for bail and will reappear in court later this month.

Livingstone broke free of his monitoring ankle bracelet early on Thursday morning at his home in Upper Hutt. Authorities were alerted by the tamper alarm.

He was eventually caught on Friday at the Naenae shops after being free for around 24 hours.

Corrections has launched a review into whether the Community Corrections did everything it could to make sure Livingstone was managed correctly.
