An endangered sea turtle that's been resident at Wellington Zoo for the past four weeks is on the move to Kelly Tarlton's in Auckland.
The young female Olive Ridley reptile was discovered in a critical condition on the beach at Lyall Bay last month, with a broken shell and suffering from hypothermia.
The first sea turtle to receive care at Wellington Zoo, Ridley was initially in a critical condition but has made impressive progress, vet Dr Baukje Lenting says.
For her to have shown this much improvement is a good sign and bodes well for her eventual release back into the wild.
Wellington Zoo staff transferred Ridley into a crate and loaded her into the back of a ute, which drove her to the airport board a flight to Auckland this morning.
Kelly Tarlton's will look after her until she's well enough to be released back into the wild.
