A convicted murderer has turned himself in after police warned he was armed and on the loose.

Christopher Gregory Thomas is currently in custody after making himself available to police in Henderson shortly before 10pm tonight.

A warrant for his arrest was issued yesterday evening after a violent incident and threats in Massey on Monday and police say he was in breach of his parole.

Police said that Thomas, 36, was believed to be armed and dangerous and warned he was not to be approached.

In 2002, Thomas was accused of murdering Auckland chef Michael Coffin and burying his body in a shallow grave.
