A woman accused of stabbing to death an elderly man and attacking four others in Wellington has been unable to plea due to her state of mental health.
The 25-year-old faces one charge of murder, three of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and four charges of assault with a weapon.
Her lawyer, Mike Antunovic, appeared on her behalf in the High Court at Wellington today.
There were issues about her fitness to plea, but that may improve in the next few weeks, he said.
The next court date was set for August 31.
The woman has interim name suppression, which will be addressed then.
She continues to be held in a secure facility where she is being psychiatrically assessed.
A 67-year-old died after what was described as a "rampage" in Wellington's Johnsonville in July.
The other four victims were a nine-year-old boy and three women.
