Kiwi actor gets his Hollywood break

There are high hopes for a Kiwi actor who has just landed his first big role in Hollywood.

KJ Apa is already being compared to Tom Cruise, and he's only just turned 18.

Like many Kiwi actors, Apa cut his teeth on Shortland Street. But now Hollywood is calling, and his US agent is already expecting big things.

"They think he'll be one of the biggest stars from New Zealand," says manager Mandy Jacobsen.

The former King's College student has landed the lead role in the film A Dog's Purpose, based on the novel of the same name.
