Police have arrested a 32-year-old man, who apparently prefers to commit crimes while crawling, in relation to a spate of burglaries around Wellington and Lower Hutt.

Lower Hutt CIB arrested the man and charged him with seven burglaries, the latest yesterday morning.

Police believe the man burgled Chapelli's Eatery and Wine Bar in Lower Hutt around 5:30am yesterday, caught on CCTV using a light blue pry bar and carrying a black strapped satchel.

However, between the burglary and when police found him near Woburn Rd 10 minutes later, he'd ditched the objects.

They want help trying to find the items.

The man has also been linked to a number of other burglaries across bars and cafes in the Wellington CBD, including the Green Man, where he had been caught on camera crawling on his hands and knees.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court.

Anyone with information of the whereabouts of the missing items should call Lower Hutt police on (04) 560 2600 or Crimestoppers via on 0800 555 111.
