A person has been arrested in central Hawke's Bay following reports an armed man was on the loose.
Cordons were put in place around 1pm in the vicinity of State Highway 2 between Waipukerau and Takapua after police were alerted to an incident involving a firearm being pointed at another person. It was then reported the alleged gunman was at large with two firearms.
The armed offenders squad and police negotiating team were deployed and a 57-year-old man was arrested without incident.
A police investigation is continuing.
