Is Hastings the most beautiful city in the country? Apparently so – they've got an award to prove it from Keep New Zealand Beautiful.
Not only are they beautiful, their Mayor, Lawrence Yule, is quite the reporter.
The awards recognise and celebrate positive actions taken by communities in local and urban areas to protect and enhance their local environments. They encompass initiatives as diverse as litter prevention, recycling, protection of the environment, preserving heritage, community action and leadership and environmental sustainability programmes.
There are three categories for the award: Most Beautiful Small Town – 5000 or less, Most Beautiful Large Town – 5000 to 20,000, and Most Beautiful City – 20,000+.
