Kingston Flyer causes South Island controversy

It's a train that is the subject of an intense custody battle.

The famous Kingston Flyer steam train has been stuck on its tracks for the past couple of years and now the Invercargill City Council wants to buy it.

Some say the old train is the very symbol of Queenstown – but Southlanders say the train is actually theirs.

It stopped running more than two years ago and the Queenstown Council has removed it off their heritage list.

But it's not as easy as selling it to the highest bidder, as some Queenstown residents are pulling out all the stops to keep it.
