What could be regarded as a portent for the Rugby World Cup the national butchery team has beaten the Aussies and the UK to win the Tri-Nations Butchers' Challenge.

The six members of the "Sharp Blacks" downed their rivals for a third consecutive win in the challenge held in Auckland yesterday.

They emerged triumphant in the three-hour contest in which they were tasked to turn sides of beef, pork and a whole lamb into value-added cuts to produce a display based around a Kiwiana theme.
